Latest News – Significant progress in improving water supply in the Matsapha- Manzini corridor

Friday, 8 November, 2019 – Matsapha Water Supply

Ongoing works at the reservoir site in Matsapha ( Emathangeni)

At over 80% of works, implemented, significant progress has been made in the Matsapha- Manzini water supply system upgrade, which is being carried out by Eswatini Water Services Corporation (EWSC). Customers in Tubungu and other areas in Matsapha and Manzini have been complaining about intermittent supply.

Public Affairs and Customer Service Manager Nomahlubi Matiwane says the rehabilitation of the Matsapha water supply system which commenced in June 2019 and was communicated by the Managing Director Jabulile Mashwama has been necessitated by  growth in the Matsapha - Manzini corridor and EWSC is rising to the occasion to ensure consistent supply of quality water and sanitation services to both domestic and commercial customers.

Matiwane says since June, they have successfully improved water supply to Kwaluseni, Mfabantfu, and surrounding areas where the Corporation has increased supply capacity by upgrading the pumping system to the Logoba reservoir. Supply in these areas was previously affected by increased demand in these areas.

EWSC is also just about to complete the construction of a 3 mega litre reservoir which seeks to address water supply challenges in Tubungu, Nhlambeni, Masundvwini, Sigodvweni and Mobeni. The reservoir is being built next to the existing tanks in Matsapha (Emathangeni).

On the other hand the 800 million Emalangeni project supported by the Government of eSwatini and the Africa Development Bank has kicked off with the engagement of Gibb Africa consultants, who have started work towards developing detailed designs for the Manzini Integrated Water Supply Project. The project will increase water supply capacity to meet future demand and further provide water to additional areas under the Mafutseni, Nhlambeni, Manzini South and Mtfongwaneni Constituencies. Matiwane said this project is anticipated to be completed in 2022.
